Sadly, our esteemed member Eddie O'Connor passed away two days ago. Eddie was a past president of the club and served in that position for over a decade until 2013. He was a strong and consistent member of our Armstrong team and the photo shows him holding the Armstrong trophy won this year by that team.
Eddie played for Ireland's Senior teams many times including as recently as July 2024 in Krakow where he played excellently.
Eddie's enthusiasm was infectious and his many chess stories were a delight. His fondest memory was playing blitz chess against Mikhall Tal. Always generous with his time, Eddie helped many of our lower rated players with their chess and was very welcoming to new members. He will be sadly missed.
